Dates: Week 6, 7 and 8
Deadline: End of Week 8.
Goals: To work as a team to develop a business idea. To think about the needs of the potential customers of your product/service/app, coming from English/Spanish speaking countries or using these languages to communicate when they travel to our countries. To discuss with your telecollaboration partners if the idea is feasible, if it meets the needs of your potential customers, if it is competitive nationally and internationally, etc. To prepare and present a promotional video and an oral presentation.
DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:  
4.1. Brainstorming and choosing a business idea Working in teams you will imagine that you are young entrepreneurs who want to start a new business. Your business will introduce an innovative product/service/app into the tourism industry that should aim to improve the lives of tourists or tourism professionals and also develop solutions to social, cultural or environmental issues related to tourism.

The final goal is to create a 4-minute long promotional video and an oral presentation in order to present your start-ups and products in a fictitious international tourism fair.

In teams, choose an idea for your business. Create a New Google doc and note down your ideas. Name this doc ‘Ideas for our new product’

4.2. Thinking about your promotional video and watching/looking for examples. In your groups, think of the kind of 3 to 4 minute-long digital story you’d like to make (a video combining moving pictures and voice-over narration/a video in which you are the actors and actresses/ a video combining still images and voice-over narration). Add these ideas to your group’s GoogleDoc shared document ‘Ideas for our new product’. Watch the examples provided below to get an idea of the main elements that make up a digital story:

4.3. Thinking about the topic, structure, software and resources needed In your groups, think of the following aspects: a) how to approach the topic in an original and appealing way b) the overall structure of your digital story c) the software you will use to make your digital story (Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, PPT, Prezi, etc.) d) the kinds of resources you will need (information resources, audiovisual and textual resources, etc.). Note down these ideas in your shared Google doc ‘Ideas for our new product’.
4.4. Uploading business- and/or tourism-related resources, suggestions, tips, etc. to Padlet Upload your business- and/or tourism-related resources, suggestions, tips, etc. to the Padlet (or any other resource, website, etc. you might consider of interest for the project).
4.5. Writing the script of your video Home activity. In your groups, create the script of your digital story by following the steps below:

-In your groups, brainstorm and make decisions about your script and about the title of your service/product/app. Next, in your group’s folder, create a New Google doc named “SCRIPT” and write your script collaboratively with your partners. As for the length, your script should have around 400 words and should allow you to speak for 4 minutes in total (1 minute each). Time yourselves!

4.6. Asking your telecollaboration partners for their opinion on your business idea (via email or Skype) and sharing the script with them in order to get their feedback and suggestions. Home activity. Share the first draft of your script with your foreign partners (via email or Skype) in order to get their feedback & suggestions. You should also give them feedback & suggestions about the videos/oral presentation that they are preparing. You can do this by email or by meeting them in Skype.
4.7. Modifying the first draft of the script based on your telecollaboration partners’ comments and submitting the final version through Moodle for teacher assessment. Home activity. 4.9. Putting the audiovisual resources together and finalizing and sharing your video Home activity. In your groups, work together towards completing your digital stories. Put together your audio and visual resources and once you finalize your videos, upload them to Youtube. Then, share the link with your teacher through Moodle.
4.10. Preparing an oral presentation (pitch) to present your business idea in class (in a fictitious Tourism International Fair) before showing your video Prepare an oral presentation (a pitch) to present your business idea before showing your video in the fictitious International Tourism Fair. Use the template given (Annex I).
4.11. Delivering presentations and showing your videos in class Pitch your business idea and show your promotional video in class in front of your home university partners.
4.12. Voting for the best videos and pitches presented by your home university partners.

 

4.13. Announcing the winners.

Use the collaborative assessment rubric (Annex 2) to assess your partners’ oral presentations and videos. Then, vote for the best ones. The best videos and oral presentations will be awarded prizes.
