Hello everyone, my name is ST-LVIA-G4-7 and I’m currently studying for a BA degree, English studies. Since I’m the first person to post here I can’t answer your questions yet and I would like to break the ice and start a meaningful discussion with you all. So, those are my questions:

1- Do you prefer the traditional method of teaching/ learning in the classroom or you don’t mind including technology in the process?
2- How often do you use ICT tools in your classroom?
3- From your own experience, do ICTs impact student learning?
4-Are you motivated to use ICT?

looking forward to reading your answers 🙂

·         ST-LVIA-G4-8

+ ST-LVIA-G4-7 Hello, ST-LVIA-G4-7)) As we know each other well I will go straight forward to your questions.
1) I think using ICT tools are very good idea. It helps us somehow to visualize the material which we study upon. Moreover, I guess that it helps student greatly to improve some their skills related to technologies when it comes to their usage.
2) As I am an Erasmus Student in UV, I can tell about usage of ICT so in my home university as in UV.
In my home, unfortunately, we do not use ICT during our classes at the university.
That is why it was a great pleasure for me to realize that usage of ICT in the University of Valencia is an essential part of the learning process.
3) Judging from myown experience, I can claim that the usage of ICT is a very useful thing nowadays in learning process for everybody.
4) As for me, I am definitely motivated to use ICT.

What do you, by they way, think about these issues, ST-LVIA-G4-7?)

·         ST-LVIA-G4-8

Now I can introduce myself as well. So I am ST-LVIA-G4-8. I am currently studying for a BA degree, Translation Studies. I also want to provide you with some my questions concerning the topic of our research.

1) Why do you think, nowadays, some people deny using ICT in their learning?

2) Do you prefer more visual materials or those which should be listened?

3) Which methods you consider more effective in the learning process?

4) Does watching movies in English, for example, could help improve our English skills?

Looking forwards to your answers))

·         ST-LVIA-G4-6

Hi everybody, my name is ST-LVIA-G4-6 and I’m studying now a degree in English Studies. However, last year I finished a Master for being teacher in secondary education. So, my answers and questions are probably going to be oriented to the application of ICT in high schools and how affect children learning.

I’m going to ask first my questions and later I will answer the questions already made by my colleagues.

1- Regarding the use of Tablets in high school lessons. Do you think they are a useful tool or a big distraction for children and a problem for teachers?

2- Do you know what Flipped Classroom is? What do you think about this methodology?

3- Do you have any experience as teacher using ICT in your lessons?

4- Regarding what we have seen in English 6 lessons. What do you think about the use of robots to allow children in hospitals to attend school in a virtual way?

·         ST-LVIA-G4-6

Hi + ST-LVIA-G4-7, as your questions are highly related between them I will try to answer them all together.

I can affirm that I’m really motivated to use ICTs, in fact I use them every time I have to do a presentation because they serve me as support for my arguments. So, using them in education, specially in a subject like English, is positive to help shy students to express themselves easily. However, not all the ICTs are useful in all situations, but combine them with traditional methodologies can contribute to catch the interest of students and improve their learning.

·         ST-LVIA-G4-5

Hi everyone, my name is ST-LVIA-G4-5, I’m currently a student in my third year of a degree in English Studies in the University of Valencia, Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication.
The following answers are responses to ST-LVIA-G4-7’s questions.
1- I strongly believe that using technology in teaching is a good idea because it gives students a visual aid, contributing to a better understanding of the content dealt with in class.

2- I must confess that I rarely use technological devices such as a laptop in class, as I prefer to make hand-written notes.

3- Based on my experience, I think that technology had an impact on my education 3 years ago. In my last year of secondary school I studied History of Art, and my teacher used to project all the material on a screen, this made it easier to see and understand the details of the pieces of art studied in this class, which were not very clear in the text book we were given and made me feel more confident, when doing the exam.

4- I am definitely motivated to use ICT, as I would like to use it for my future students.

·         ST-LVIA-G4-5

Having introduced myself, I will provide you with four questions regarding the topic:

1- What uses of technology have you been impressed with or come away thinking “I would
like to try that in my future classroom?

2- Are some subjects better suited for ICT integration than others?

3- Do you think that technology should be used on a daily basis? Can you give examples?

4- In which ways can ICT be used for in schools?

·         ST-LVIA-G4-5

+ ST-LVIA-G4-6 I will answer to ST-LVIA-G4-6’s questions:

1- think that if high school teachers thought students how to make a good use of them, these gadgets could become a useful tool. For instance, if they need to search for some events in the history of Spain, they will find them on several websites and try to distinguish them. However, these gadgets are now part of the students life so that if teachers don’t include these devices in their lecture plans they will obviously become a distraction for them.

2- I have never heard of Flipped Classroom. I search for it on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flipped_classroom. According to its definition, it seems a good methodology for students at primary and high schools, because they learn how to deal with ICTs as well as working in groups and feeling more confident when speaking to other people.

3- No, I do not have any experience as teacher yet.

4- I think the use of robots at schools that are for ill children who are in hospitals for a long period of time is a good invention because they can keep learning and, the most important thing, they will keep their minds busy and avoid the sad moment that they could be living.

Moreover the ill children can also see their classmates through the robot. This means that both, the children in the hospital and the children in class, can get in touch in a virtual way and maintain their friendship besides the fact that the kids in class can give these children support and make them feel better.
·         ST-LVIA-G4-8

+ ST-LVIA-G4-6 So, I am going to answer to your questions, ST-LVIA-G4-6.

1) I think tablets are a good option in case of using them in classes. It could be a complete disaster for a teacher if students do not use the tablets for studying, but for their own needs (playing games etc);

2) I do not know what a Flipped Classroom is. According to the materials which were linked by ST-LVIA-G4-5, I can say that in some cases that should be really a great option for students as well as pupils at schools to develop their computer skills using ICT. I am a bit disagree with ST-LVIA-G4-5 about feeling more confident in the discussion with others. I think that only face-to-face discussion can be really useful for developing communicational skills, work in groups and so on.

3) I have an experience in taking my lessons with children as an English tutor using ICT. Yes, it is more comfortable and useful thing, because children can find in the Internet any kind if information concerning our tasks, play even some games related to english, which is very useful as well.

4) I think robots are quite unnecessary thing is case of learning and attend classes online. The children should be healthy first and then attend normal classes at school.

·         ST-LVIA-G4-8

By the way, it is worth to admit that other people do not want to participate in our discussion. Guys, the time is going and we should start to do something. The case of ideas is a very good decision, but we should come to reality and move further. So, I think a couple of answers more are enough for the beginning of making our project «alive».

·         ST-LVIC-G4-1

Hello everyone, my name is ST-LVIC-G4-1 and I’m a student of english translation in the University of Valencia. Much like some of you, I’m also in my third year and I am a huge fan of today’s technologies as well.

Now, answering ST-LVIA-G4-7’s questions, I have to admit that while my answer might be a little biased due to how I have been exposed to technological devices since I was very little, I prefer the inclusion of technologiesin the process of learning, but I am well aware of how that might change depending on the student’s preferences.

I myself have a few subjects I partake in that heavily rely in technology, and as a translation student I feel that is very helpful towards us since it helps us get around with the tools we will use in the future. Therefore, my answer to your third question is «yes», and that is exactly why I am motivated to see the implementation of ICT in a bigger scale, as from my point of view it’s an advantage for both the teachers/lecturers and the students.

·         Adriane Durand

hi, I’m a french student and I’m currently studying in Valencia and I ‘m in my third year of degree.

I will answer to some question that you propose to star and i will do an other post with my 4 question.

1) someone asks if English movies help to improve our skill. Personnally I think that it could help to imrpove our accent and our understanding of English but it ‘s only a bonus.
2) for my part, in my high school and my university in France I had chance because their were quite well equiped with ICT tools. And I think that if their are used in certain case it could be useful
·         Adriane Durand

Now i will give my 4 questions
1- Do you think necessary that teachers get a formation in relation to ICT to used this tools?
2- Does ICT help student get more focus on the class or not?
3- What do you think is the more important ICT in a class?
4- In your imagnination, how a classroom in 20 years will look like?

Looking forwards to your answers

·         ST-LVIC-G4-1

+Adriane Durand Hello Adriane, I found your questions to be quite interesting as I think looking into the future is a great way to tackle this topic.

Regarding your first question, I believe it is a must for teachers to get acquainted with ICT as they have to adapt to what I’d call an unstoppable innovation as it is now. This works for students as well, with more power in their hands come more ways to get distracted but that is something that they need to keep in mind.

For me the most important aspect of ICT varies depending on which subject is taught and which method is used to teach it.

Finally, to answer your last question I’d like to imagine a classroom 20 years from now wouldn’t be too different from the ones we have now, however, it’s difficult to see how much progress is yet to be made.

·         ST-LVIC-G4-2

Hello everyone! My name is ST-LVIC-G4-2 and I’m a student of English translation in the University of Valencia. I have to say that I find very interesting the inclusion of ICT in schools. However, I don’t have much experience since I have not been exposed to technology devices in the schools I have gone, but I think it would be a good point to teach children how to use them to take advange of it and not use it as a distraction.

Now, regarding Adriane questions, I think that teachers should adapt and get inmersed in the world of ICT tools, so that they can get more familiarised with them and this way, they can teach children how to use them. Nevertheless, I think that they could be a distraction in a classroom, but if we try to teach them properly, they can be a good tool to improve their learning.

Finally, I think that 20 years from now, classroom will be very differente, although we can never know. But nowadays ICT tools are developing very quickly and in some countries they have already got ride of books and have substituted them for tablets for example, so I think in some years, most schools will adopt this system because it has been proved that it works.

·         Adriane Durand

hi! thanks to have taking time to answers my questions.
I’m agree with you that it’s hard to imagine a classroom in 20years because innovation in tecnhologie are very fast and we can’t really imagine what the future will look like. But I think that their will more and more screen.

·         ST-LVIA-G4-5

Hi everyone, again! Nice to meet you, all of you. I am answering to Adriane Durand’s questions, because I find them interesting regarding our topic.
1- With regard to the first question, I think that teachers need to be trained in a complete ICT course in order to deal with them properly in class, because they can also get the most out of these tools so that teachers can make the learning process easier.

2- In regard to the second question, I think it depends on the kind of device they use in class. If the teacher uses a screen to show graphs or visual information such as pictures of buildings and paintings, the ICT will help the students to be more focused on the subject and to remember the contents. Nevertheless, if the students are the ones who use the laptops or tablets to take notes while the teacher is explaining , they can get easily distracted by an incoming email or any other message that could pop up on their screens. Furthermore, based on my own experience, I believe that writing things down by hand involves a deeper mental process than typing, because we write slower so we have to consider what we are hearing and write the most important or what is relevant for us.

3- For me, the most important ICTs in class are the computers together with the screen-board, due to the fact that with these tools, teachers can also draw, highlight or even design in 3d a wide range of information at the same time they are explaining it, which will help students to understand the contents easier and better.

4- In 20 years time, the class will change in terms of teaching methodologies, that is to say, perhaps there will be online classes, and the classrooms will be empty. In this scenario the teacher will be in front of their laptop explaining the contents and students will watch their teacher’s lesson whenever they want at home on their laptops.

·         Adriane Durand

Hello ST-LVIA-G4-5, thanks to have answered to my question.

I’m agree with you that sometimes students don’t use correctly the ICT during class, they go on facebook rather than take note of the course.

for your vision of the class in 20year i found it a little bit sad because than mean no more contact between students and teachers neither interaction between students wich permit us to build our personality.

do you have some question for us , ST-LVIA-G4-5? =)

·         ST-LVIA-G4-5

Hello Adriane! I am glad to know that you have read my answers.
Yes, my vision is quite tragic, but I think of this idea because human beings are becoming more and more obsessed with new technology, so that perhaps this vision is on their minds.

Yes, I do. I posted four questions some time ago, but I will repeat them, because nobody answered me:

1- What uses of technology have you been impressed with or come away thinking “I would
like to try that in my future classroom?

2- Are some subjects better suited for ICT integration than others?

3- Do you think that technology should be used on a daily basis? Can you give examples?

4- In which ways can ICT be used for in schools?

·         Adriane Durand

sorry I haven’t noticed that you already posted your questions =)

1- I don’t really follow the new technologie that are in development but one I want to try it’s google glass but there are not useful in class ^^

2- I think that all subject can be associed with ICT even scientifics one’s.

3- I think that we already use technology every day not sure it’is the best think for our eyes. And I think that technology will be more and more present in your daliy life

4- I think it depends of the subject but ICT can be use for interact, show think in another point of view, share experience and other …

Sorry my answer are not very elaborated…
·         ST-LVIC-G4-1

+ ST-LVIA-G4-5 Since I overlooked your questions the first time you posted them I will take this opportunity to answer them now as well.

While it’s not in my plans for the nearest future to teach, as a student I can notice what helps make a class easier for the students as a whole, and I have noticed that ICT has brought many possibilities to enhance interactivity between them and the teacher, which is possibly my favorite thing about the new technologies.

In regards to your second question, I think it’s quite clear that some subjects will use ICT more than others, especially because nowadays we have subjects that revolve around ICT itself.

I don’t see a problem with technology being used in a daily basis as long as it’s used in moderation, and, as a matter of fact, I believe it’s equally important to teach how to use technology as much as necessary but never too much as it can create dependency.

In relation to the ways ICT can be used for school, I completely agree with Adriane in that it mostly depends on what the subject is, as besides teaching specifics it can be used as a tool for other characteristics that the students can learn outside of the range of the subject such as teamwork, cooperation or responsibility, to name a few.

·         ST-LVIA-G4-6

Hi + ST-LVIA-G4-8 and + ST-LVIA-G4-5 as you answer my questions I checked yours and I have elaborated an answer for each one.

First ST-LVIA-G4-8, answering your questions:
I don’t think that people deny the idea of using ICT, but the way we learn is different for each other and when we find something that works or fits with our learning, we just want to continue with it. So, I think so many people prefer to continue with what they know that works, instead of trying with something better, but unknown. And that’s why some people don’t like to use ICT.
Regarding the use of audiovisual materials, I think that both, videos and audios are useful, but depending on what you want to improve or just work in a particular moment. It also answer your question about with methods are better. Well, I think all methods are positive and negative depending on how we use them.

Now ST-LVIA-G4-5, answering your questions:
I have to confess that every single new technology that I’ve heard about sounds amazing to me. So, I would like to use everything in my future classroom. Although I know that it isn’t possible I will try to use those new technologies available to me. It means that I would like to use ICT on a daily basis in order to support my students learning. Starting for the most common ones, as videos or audios, to finish with those new methodologies such as Flipped Classroom (the one I mention in my questions).

ST-LVIA-G4-9

Hi!!!!!! I have been reading all your answers and I would like to know what you have learnt in the discussion and share your final ideas about this topic. Thank you so much for being so participative, I hope you have a wonderful Easter!!!!
