3 sessions of 90 mins each

STAGE 4.2: Creating a new product, service or app and a digital story
Dates: Weeks 5, 6 and 7, from __________ to __________
Deadlines digital stories tasks: First draft of script: End of Week 5; final (corrected) script: End of Week 6; sharing the digital stories: End of Week 7: assessing the digital stories: End of Week 8.
Theme & goals: Collaborative development of a new product/service/app so as to: 1) learn to develop collaborative projects and to co create artefacts by working together in multinational teams so as to reach a common goal connected to solving a social problem or fulfilling a social need 2) become more aware of what aspects of their business cultures are different to the members of different business cultures (cultural self-awareness).
Step 0. Read the scenario and the information about the main project task: Main Virtual Exchange project description: A digital story about the creation of a new product/service and an oral presentation. The overall idea of the main Virtual Exchange project is to create a 4-minute long digital story and to deliver an oral presentation within the general theme: “Creating a new product/service/app”. Working in their Virtual Exchange teams, they’ll deal with the scenario below.
Step 1. Brainstorming and choosing your product/service/app: In your groups, read the ‘Developing, designing and marketing a new product/service/app’ scenario and brainstorm ideas and possible answers to the different questions about the new product. Keep in mind that your product can be a good, which is tangible, a service which is intangible, or a hybrid which is a combination of a good and a service. It can also be an App for a mobile phone. Create a New Google doc on your group’s shared folder and note down your ideas. Name this doc ‘Ideas for our new product’ and consider the questions below.

All preparatory work is carried out on the Google Drive (Google Docs and Google Slides). Each group creates their folder on Google Drive. All group members and the teacher have access and editing rights in the folders.

Step 2. Thinking about your digital story and watching examples: In your groups, think of the kind of 3 to 4 minute-long digital story you’d like to make (a video combining moving pictures and voice-over narration/a video in which you are the actors and actresses/ a video combining still images and voice-over narration). Add these ideas to your group’s GoogleDoc shared document ‘Ideas for our new product’. Watch the examples provided below to get an idea of the main elements that make up a digital story.
Step 3. Thinking about the topic, structure, software and resources for your digital story: In your groups, think of the following aspects: a) how to approach the topic in an original and appealing way; b) the overall structure of your digital story c) the software you will use to make your digital story (Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, PPT, Prezi, etc.) d) the kinds of resources you will need (information resources, audiovisual and textual resources, etc.). Note down these ideas in your shared Google doc ‘Ideas for our new product’[1].
Step 4: Creating the storyboard: In your groups start creating a storyboard for your digital story, which will help you decide how many scenes you’d like to have, how you would coordinate the images with the voice-over narration, etc. Add these ideas to your shared Google doc ‘Ideas for our new product’[2].
Step 5: Creating your script: In your groups, create the script of your digital story by following the different steps.
Step 5.1. Finding a title for your digital story and organising your work: In your groups, brainstorm and make decisions about your script and about the title of your digital story (an example of a good, self explanatory title would be “A digital story about SolfamiredoApp, a new and innovative product”). Next, in your group’s folder, create a New Google doc named “SCRIPT” and write your script collaboratively with your partners. Once you finish writing your script, ONLY ONE FILE PER GROUP SHOULD BE SENT THROUGH your institution’s e
Step 5.2. Sharing this first draft of your script and giving & receiving feedback: Share the first draft of your script with your foreign partners in order to get their feedback & suggestions.
Step 5.3. Discussing your script (3rd synchronous meeting): Meet your foreign partners in Hangouts to discuss your script & to give them ideas about the ad they’re going to create (3rd synchronous meeting).
Step 5.4. Writing and submitting the final version of your script: Modify the first draft of your script based on your foreign partner’s comments and submit the final version through your university’s learning management system.
Step 6. Putting the audiovisual resources together and finalizing & sharing your digital stories: In your groups, work together towards completing your digital stories. Put together your audio and visual resources and once you finalize your videos, share them on the G+ Community.
Step 7. Assessing the digital stories: Watch the different Virtual Exchange groups’ digital stories which have previously been uploaded onto the Google+ Community and individually provide constructive feedback for at least 3 digital stories using the digital stories assessment sheets provided by your teacher (Annex I). Write your opinion (about 5 lines) about at least 3 digital stories in the forum by using the «Comment» button. Fill in the assessment sheet to give peer feedback on at least 2 digital stories shared by your foreign partners. After watching all digital stories and assessing and giving feedback on at least 3, and vote for the best digital stories (3 local and 3 foreign).

International Entrepreneurship scenario: (Step 0)
“You are a group of friends and you have decided that you want to become self-made millionaires at the age of 25! All you need to achieve your goal is an idea, an innovative idea for a new product, or a service, or even an app! You also need a lot of hard work, of course. You decide to join forces and enter a competition for young innovators. You need to come up with an idea and win the prize for the most innovative and successful product/service/app! Your idea will be presented in the form of a digital story and an oral presentation”.

Questions about your new product/service/app: (Step 1)
Here are some possible questions you will need to consider:
What functionality does your product provide?
Who will use your product? Why will they use it?
What problems can your product solve?
What advantages does your product present?
Why is your product superior to other products?
What are the dimensions of your product?
How much will your product cost?
